:: Where it all started ::

"Been gone for a minute now I'm back with the jump-off!" .....Haha, haven't blogged in a while but the Summer festivities have GIVEN ME LIFE.  This blog post is way over due!


Let's take it back to the basics.  It all started Friday July, 2, 2010.  I was invited to Lux Lounge for a birthday celebration for who is now a very close friend, Siddiqah.  I've been to Lux many times before that night but always headed upstairs (2nd floor) where the Djs spun the hottest in Hip-Hop & R&B.  Never thought twice about partying on the first floor because the music (besides the Reggae) played was unfamiliar to me.  


Well that night literally changed my social life for the better!!  Private table in VIP, bottles flowing from left to right, my glass was never empty & nonstop pictures being taken by the celebrants and private photgraphers as Sid celebrated her bday with a BANG!!!!!  

I've never had so much fun at Lux Lounge.  My past party nights on the 2nd floor wasn't IT!!  Why?  Because hip-hop didn't make my hips whine, jook & sway the way the African beats and Caribbean tunes on the 1st floor did!!!    DJ & Event Promoter Sam Mobit (DJ Chick) and friends (Dee Jay Tee Boogie & DJ Sam I Am) had me hooked.  

I'm dedicating this blog post to the one and only DJ Chick!!! 

Okay forgive me but I have to fast forward a bit. A year later and DJ Chick still has a spot in my heart.  Always lives up to his reputation.  Great parties, venues, music, celebrities & fashion forward people!  Even if the event is outdoors, in the heat & during a heatwave.  Yes a heatwave!!!!  DJ Chick brings people out no matter the circumstances.

Indoor/Outdoor Beach Patio Day/Night Party

* The Ambiance*

Outdoor patio with sand where you can get the feel of the "beach life" in the city and a little sand between those toes.  There's also a gaming area featuring: Pool / Ping Pong / Billiards / Poker / Corn Hole on Bag Toss.  Outdoor projection TVs & ample amount of indoor/outdoor seating.  The menu is to die for!  Gourmet hotdogs, hamburgers, brisket, fries & chicken tenders just to name a few (and enough to get your mouth salivating).

*The Music*

Just to touch on my favorite DJ of the night

 It's pretty much illegal to have 4 out of my 5 favorite DMV DJs at one party!!  Smooth, Sam I AM, Chick and Claude the Martian from Tag Soundz definitely bring the fiyah!  One thing I loved about this event is I was able to discover something about one of them.  I knew he was the King of Coupé Décalé, Kompa & Zouk.  But gee-whiz he also spun some of my favorite tunes from West Africa as well.  Yes, I know to some I must have been under a rock for the last year!  Others may even ask "Did you not know the reason why they call him the number 1 international DJ?"  There's a reason why he's one of my favs- DJ CHICK!!!  

What I loved about him is so many DJs use applications on their fancy MacBook Pros. But before that era I witnessed DJs using that hard plastic.  No not records (I'm a youngin'), but good ol' Compact Discs.  It has been 100+ degrees out lately and he still manages to get everyone up off of their beach chairs!  Providing sets with flawless transitions (one of my pet peeves) and not a lot of talking on the mic.  People are not afraid to get down and embrace the sweat dripping all over their bodies. 

............And who else can bring out JOHN DUMELO, NANA BOROO & MAJID MICHEL all at one party??  Just sayin'!!!!!!!!

*The Fashion*

 What I like about the Sunday Cookout is the fashion forwardness from many.  The ultra-chic relaxed looks of shorts, skirts, rompers, denim & cropped pants are executed well from many.  Of course no matter where you go there are a selected few that "didn't get the memo" or have a "where are your friends?" moment.  But what catches my attentions are the fashionistas/os!!  Below are some of my favorite looks!!

Great music, great atmosphere, professional promoters. I'll be sad when we have to say goodbye to the Summer ;-)
